Card Security Code and Address Verification Service - Our fast and cost-effective new card checking service.

Cardholder Not Present (CNP) fraud is on the increase as more and more cardholders place phone, mail and Internet orders for goods and services. APACS figures show that UK card fraud in the UK rose by 24% from 2003 to 2004.

Barclaycard Business is committed to working with you to fight fraud and safeguard your business against needless losses. That's why we've introduced the Card Security Code and Address Verification Service - a fast and efficient way to validate Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Solo and Amercian Express cardholders, fight fraud and give your business more protection and control.

This service works by first electronically checking the security code (the last 3 numbers on the cardholder's signature strip and for AMEX for the 4 digits on the front of the card), and then checks the numerics of the address. The data check response helps you decide whether or not to proceed with the transaction. The address is verified by simply entering the post code and address numbers into your point of sale equipment when prompted to do so. For example - Enter the numbers from the cardholder's postcode - up to 5 numbers eg:

Flat 5A
Redfield House
29 High Street
Northampton
NN16 3SH

Numbers to be entered into the point of sale = 163.

Then enter the numbers from the cardholder's address - up to 5 numbers eg:

Flat 5A
Redfield House
29 High Street
Northampton
NN16 3SH

Numbers to be entered into the point of sale = 529.

If the cardholder's address contains more than 5 numbers, only the first 5 numbers should be entered. The address checked should be the cardholder address and not the delivery address if this is different.

The Card Security Code and Address Verification Service provides an extra safeguard against fraudulent activity and could save your business the cost of many expensive chargebacks. What's more, it could also help speed up your online and mail/telephone order transactions. Using these services is not mandatory, however by using this it will ensure that you do not incur additional charges for non-secure transactions for each item processed without the card security code.

The service is available free with PDQ terminals, ePDQ products, and EPOS systems (Barclaycard Business supplied or otherwise).
